Recently, I saw a post by a reader who studies football history in depth. He is still very young, but the knowledge he has is already impressive. The post was all about Bobby Charlton and how he would not be above other former greats of English and British football in general.
It's normal for newer players than others to have more spotlight than older players. However, I can't see much of a comparison between Bobby Charlton and other great British players like Stanley Matthews, Alex James, Hughie Gallacher, Jimmy Crabtree, Ernest Needham, Steve Bloomer, Bob Crompton and others. I even see an exceptional abyss between England's first great names.
Although, yes, Bobby Charlton was one of the main names of the 1960s.
