This will be a topic that I will only comment on once, because, since the end of the World Cup — and some time before —, I have been asked what I think of the comparison between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. These questions became more frequent after Messi won the World Cup. What I have read the most is: "is the debate over?". I mean, what debate? What's so profound about this "debate"? Could it be that people only started to see the goal in football, instead of following the game as a whole, in its deepest essence? Did they just follow superficial statistics? That's what it looks like.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time, but he is not Lionel Messi. I see no comparison between the two. I never saw it, by the way. The Argentine belongs to a different level.
