I will give my opinion on what I think about the football of — and only football — Kylian Mbappé. Mbappé is a great player who will possibly reach even higher levels than he already has. After the last generation, the Frenchman is talked about as the main name of the great players of modern football. Yes, in a way, I see him standing out alongside other young players.
Kylian Mbappé is a marked player due to his high confidence and, above all, impressive acceleration and speed. I have seen few other players with the speed of this Frenchman. Sometimes it looks like he's never going to get the ball. He, however, to the spectator's surprise, arrives and manages to get some good out of it shortly thereafter. If Mbappé puts the ball in front, it is almost impossible to stop him – almost, Walker did this task very well at the World Cup.
He is an executor of final actions; not an organizer or an orchestrator. That is, he completes the moves designed by others, mainly by the creativity of Neymar and Lionel Messi. Mbappé, in my opinion, is more of an individualist. I read that he prefers to have more freedom on the field than to be more centralized. Consequently, according to him, the position of left winger would be better suited. I believe that Mbappé works even better playing alongside a false 9, because, due to his high pace and with the tactical knowledge of an eventual centre-forward, he would cause even more damage to the opposing defences.
Playing in the World Cup and UEFA Champions League, Mbappé seems not to feel the weight of competitions. He's always a big name at these tournaments, mainly the World Cup.
In technical and tactical aspects, he is not a spectacular player. Mbappé is not a cerebral player, he is not a scientific footballer, he is not a genius. No, far from it. He doesn't have even above average tactical knowledge. Technically speaking, Mbappé doesn't stand up to the greats of the past. He lacks the ball mastery of other exceptional players. When he is tested in quick accurate combinations, Mbappé fails in most cases. He is not a passer; he doesn't have great ball control. However, Mbappé has excellent dribbling skills which is very well complemented by his step overs.
Strangely, it's hard to comment on his shots. I've seen Mbappé score beautiful goals in a less favorable position. He, however, strangely tends to miss several chances when he is in clear goal situations. This aspect of him is very curious.
France has had more talented players, such as Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Zinédine Zidane and Thierry Henry. In fact, I constantly see Mbappé being compared to Henry. Perhaps due to the former Arsenal star's impressive speed. I, however, considered that Henry was a player with a tactical and technical repertoire far superior to that of Kylian Mbappé, which relies a lot on his explosive speed.
If Mbappé has a lot of longevity, he will be among the greats of French and perhaps world football. I conclude that this is only given by an eventual longevity.
