In November of 1923, Sam Hardy, who was considered the best goalkeeper who played football in England, was asked which, according to him, would be the strongest team he would compose if he had at his disposal all the players against whom and with whom he played during his long career.
Sam Hardy, being automatically designated as goalkeeper, here is the XI he selected: Hardy - Crompton, Pennington - Gordon, MacCall, MacWilliam - Meredith, Bloomer, Wilson, Morris, Bache.
