This was a very uneven match in terms of technique. Uruguay completely dominated the match, due to their more refined and precise style of play. However, they were unable to convert their vast superiority into more goals on the scoreboard. Quickly, shortly after Pedro Petrone opened the scoring, right winger Muñagorri tied the match. Héctor Scarone put Uruguay ahead again, just a few minutes before half-time. In stoppage time, Pololo converted a penalty for his team.
For the second half, Atlético de Madrid made two changes. Manzanedo replaced Alfonso Olaso and Triana, injured, left for Tuduri.
The 2:2 draw promised a hard-fought second half, but the Uruguayans exercised sovereign dominance against the Spanish. Scarone & Petrone each added a goal to the scoreboard.
For this match, the King of Spain, Afonso XIII, and the Minister of Uruguay were also present.
ATHLETIC CLUB DE MADRID.
There is not much to comment about the Madrid team. The team fought bravely to achieve a draw, but Uruguayan superiority was vast. Goalkeeper Martínez made exceptional saves, earning a huge ovation.
URUGUAY.
Uruguay maintained a solid performance, demonstrating its usual style of play. Although the draw took over the scoreboard twice, there were no serious risks for the visiting team.
Andrés Mazali was sure and determined. José Nasazzi was superior to Uriarte. José Vidal and Alfredo Ghierra did not have the same prominence as Andrade.
Between the defensive system and the offensive system, what stood out most was the forward line, with the support of José Leandro Andrade, the right half-back. Only Ángel Romano was not up to par with his teammates. Scarone and Petrone stood out, reflecting the Uruguayan style of play with precision. Among the last two mentioned, Petrone stood out most in terms of shooting and his exceptionally successful rushes against the opponent's defensive system. Scarone, in turn, had a more complete game.
MATCH REPORT: Regarding the individualities, three can be highlighted: Petrone, Andrade and Scarone, mentioned precisely because of the best exhibition.
