Two teams made a tremendous impression yesterday, those of Uruguay and Hungary. The South Americans literally amazed us. We gave them some credit because of the performances they had achieved in Spain very recently. But we were far from expecting to see them evolve with such virtuosity. Remarkable dribbling, marking out, repeated passes and knowledge comparable to that of the English "pros", all this constitutes the baggage of the Uruguay players. They must already be considered favorites in the Tournament.

The Hungarians demonstrated against the valiant Poles that they are indeed the tenors announced and expected. Their football, with its superior technique, earned them a clear success which will not be the last they will achieve.

Today France and Holland will probably eliminate Latvia and Romania. Tomorrow Ireland must defeat Bulgaria, but the match Switzerland against Czechoslovakia is well balanced and if we think that the Czechs will be the winners, let's admit that it is purely personal impression.

On Thursday, Belgium can eliminate Sweden, Italy can beat Luxembourg, Uruguay can beat the United States and Hungary can beat Egypt. Which would give us as quarter-finalists: France, Holland, Ireland, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Italy, Uruguay Hungary.

Let us recognize that the prize is important, that the Olympic Football Tournament is of tremendous interest and wait for the draw to predict further which teams will reach the grand final.
