THE SECOND MATCH IN ZURICH
— Antonín Hojer | 17/01/1926 —
We played our last game on the tour on packed snow; the game required a lot of effort on this hard and frozen terrain. Due to the snow, the attendance was weak, about 3,000 people, because the Swiss went to the mountains on Sunday to pay tribute to winter disputes. However, the Czech colony of Zurich came complete. The Young Fellows knew from our game on Saturday that they were no match for us technically. They set a sharp pace at the beginning, when they also reached their own goal, then resorted to hard play, trying to keep the score to a minimum. Even the well-known international referee Hirle was nowhere near judging in the same way as he was happy to judge during international matches in Prague. He whistled a lot of questionable fouls around our big keeper, so he wants to make it easier for the Swiss to score goals more easily. Especially the right back and centre-halves, both from Hungary, went after the ball recklessly. And he didn't suit us with a too heavy ball either. We overcame all these obstacles, although already tired, but with the will to give our all and win. It was a feat beyond human strength and will. Our lineup: Hochmann — Hojer, Steiner — Kolenatý, Káďa, Červený — Novák, Poláček, Dvořáček, Hajný, Staněk.
Outside the beginning of the game, we were still in the lead, especially after the break. After Dvořáček's departure, our offense did not slacken, every player gave their last strength, just so that the tour ended with victory, dedication and the effort to hold on is best characterized by the fact that even 3 of our players in the half-back and defence often collided near the ball at the end of the game. In attack, Hajný and Poláček excelled in dribbling, Novák and Staněk in speed. Káďa gave a great performance, Kolenátý and Červený were not far behind. The Hojer-Steiner's defence worked. Hochmann had little to do, and towards the end of the game he twice dove at the feet of the Swiss forwards.
The Swiss scored an honorable goal with an oblique shot from the left wing, our effort was in vain, the Swiss led 1-0 at half-time. Then a series of chances, our sharp start, until Novák shoots and Dvořáček hits the deflected ball into the net. 1-1. Dvoráček was sent off for an unintentional foul, he wanted to curl a cross out of the air into the goal. The combination did not weaken even with four forwards, two Swiss players themselves said that we play in the style of English professionals. And again Novák attacks and from his centre Hajný shoots into the corner. The score is 2:1. Then Poláček gets the ball from me, he tracks from the top, rounds two defenders and the third goal sits, finishing the scoring of the trip. Balance: 10 matches, no defeats, score 46:12.
