Our special envoy has held an interview with Zamora who appears very upset by the defeat of London. He asked our partner about the England game and he said:
Zamora: Here we have fallen with bad luck. This atmosphere of fog and humidity does not suit us in any way. It doesn't let us develop our normal game and bad luck follows us. Regueiro could not play because his injury worsened; and Cilaurren has also been injured. I'm not doing very well with my knee; that's why I couldn't do well in the English shoots. It would have been another thing if the knee injury I suffered from didn't bother me.
— What impression has the defeat made on you?
Zamora: It has been the greatest sadness I have ever suffered in my sporting life and the most unfortunate thing is that we have been the trigger for England to demonstrate its football power against Europe. Perhaps the Austrians, because they have a more refined technique, may be the only ones who perform better against the English. The English team has no enemy in its field today. It has been a big mistake to have arranged these matches; England has fifty years of experience behind us.
— What has impressed you most about the English game?
Zamora: The wonder of their technique that in loss of effort they achieve the most practical result; the positioning of the players, the understanding of the lines and the precision of the pass are somewhat perfect. Given this technique, ours is rudimentary.
— Do you think the defeat is fair?
Zamora: Yeah; it's sad, but it's fair to admit it.
—What do you think of how the English shoot at goal?
Zamora: Magnificently, unstoppably. I was very bad, very bad, and I'm sorry, but what a way for the English to shoot. In my football life I have not had such an amazing forward line at my gate. They shoot with cannon force and a disconcerting mischief.
— Who did you think was more dangerous?
Zamora: Dean. Certainly the best centre-forward I have seen.
— If it had not been for the soft terrain and the fog, do you think you could have won?
Zamora: No, impossible; we can never beat England. This statement is very painful for the Spanish fans, but we must surrender to it. A greater distance separates us from the English game than from here to the Chamartin field.
