The first match was against G.S. Brasil, the champion of Rio Grande do Sul, but due to the level of performance of the teams from São Paulo, they did not have high expectations of coming out on top.
Without any ability to oppose the dominance of Paulistano, G.S. Brasil was completely massacred in the first half. Friedenreich, in turn, scored a hat-trick in just 30 minutes of play; Mário Andrade, twice; Zito, playing as an inside forward, scored twice in the second half.
The second match was scheduled just three days after the exceptional triumph against G.S. Brasil, on 28/03/1920, against the host Fluminense, who had been champion of the last three editions of the Campeonato Carioca — 1917, 1918 and 1919.
The Estádio das Laranjeiras was packed and the hopes of Rio were evident, especially after the first goal scored by Zezé — a goal converted extremely quickly. However, Fluminense faced a formidable opponent, who was not shaken by the home team's goal. A few minutes before the end of the first half, El Tigre Friedenreich tied the game for the São Paulo team.
MATCH REPORT: The Paulistano team showed undeniably superior technique to that of Fluminense, managing to undo all of the latter's attacks, studying their game little by little, only to leave them inert, without action and incapable of achieving victory.
The meeting, in fact, changed completely in the second half. After all, Fluminense's drop in performance, in addition to homogeneity reflected in Paulistano offensive line, were fundamental aspects in deciding the clash. Through two goals scored by Mário Andrade and one by Botelho, Paulistano was crowned champion at the Estádio das Laranjeiras.
