F.K. AUSTRIA-S.K. SLAVIA, 3:0 (0:0)
Riegler, Stroh and Jerusalem. — Plánička and Nausch stood out for each side. — F.K. Austria conquers a great result. — Could S.K. Slavia achieve another miracle?
Moving on to the quarter-finals stage of the Mitropa Cup, S.K. Slavia performed a true miracle on Czech territory. After losing 5:2 against Dr. György Sárosi's Ferencváros F.C., the red team from Prague achieved a spectacular 4:0 result. Consequently, advancing to the next stage of the tournament. F.K. Austria, in turn, eliminated the 1935/36 Prima Divisione champions, Bologna Sportiva, after a formidable result obtained at Praterstadion.
Several Viennese though that if Austria could achieve the form shown against Bologna and would be able to repeat the same determination in completing the campaign, their success could be counted on. S.K. Slavia went to Austrai with the same side which defeated Fradi.
The match was scheduled for 05/07/1936, after First Vienna's match against Ambrosiana, in another double event held at Praterstadion. Hungarian referee Ferenc Majorszky was appointed to command the match.

The match was marked by poor offensive performance by both teams. On the side of S.K. Slavia, the attack still managed to score two goals, however the Hungarian referee Majorszky ruled out both goals by offside. Slavia did not like the Hungarian's refereeing, in addition to claiming that the two goals, scored by Bradáč and Vytlačil, were legal. On the side of F.K. Austria, the attack's performance may well be mirrored by Matthias Sindelar, as both the insiders and, at times, the wingers have underperformed.
Defensively speaking, yes; both teams did very well.
With both attacks not showing a better performance, spectators only saw the first goal scored after 60 minutes of play, which was scored by the right winger Riegler.
The third goal was a true work of art. In a quick combination between Sindelar and Jerusalem, the defensive system was entered. Jerusalem received the pass from Sindelar and scored the last goal of the match.
F.K. AUSTRIA.
Although Zöhrer did not have too much work to do, the goalkeeper played flawlessly.
F.K. Austria had an excellent defence that had an easy job against the slow advances of the red team from Prague. Karl Sesta and Karl Andritz gave an absolutely reliable performance. Sesta played in full form, while Andritz was very harsh in his actions.
The improvement in form of Mock, who worked non-stop this time, was very pleasing, but Adamek and especially Nausch also offered a first-class performance. Nausch was the best half-back on the field; he tirelessly chased after the balls, provided the attack with useful passes and also helped out in defence with great success. To conclude, Adamek had to face the fast Vytlačil. Nevertheless, he was smart enough not to stray too far from the dangerous man to venture away, and that calculation in positional play eventually worked well.
Sindelar was in excellent form after the break and kept freeing up his comrades. One was less satisfied in the first 60 minutes of the game with Stroh and Jerusalem, who didn't do any real development work, but wasted their stamina constantly in pointless individual moments. Viertl did nothing against Vodička.
S.K. SLAVIA.
After the victory of S.K. Slavia over Ferencváros F.C. 4:0 in Prague, this match against F.K. Austria was generally expected in Vienna. Slavia was again the weakest team and perhaps never before has Slavia's forward line played in Vienna as badly as in this match. The main culprits were Bradáč and Horák. They walked around the field almost in the true sense of the word, as if they didn't care about the outcome.
Plánička stood out for Slavia. He deserved full praised for his saves against the opponent's actions. According to many people, he was the best player on the field.
In the full-back line, Fiala, who definitely overshadowed Daučík, stood out. Fiala, with his sharp interventions, dampened the danger of the impending goal of Slavia from the very beginning. His performance is all the more valuable because he often had to help his comrade. Daučík's form had dropped considerably. However, Daučík improved in the second half.
Not only was Průcha not good enough to cover the zones, but he was also bad at playing the ball. Of the wing half-backs, Vodička played very well, holding the dangerous pair Jerusalem-Viertl well, mainly Viertl who was not led to play much. Vodička was Slavia's the best man in the half-back line. Truhlář perfomed a satisfactory match, but could not keep up with the pace.
However, they had a difficult position behind an impossible, reckless attack, which Bradáč could not be a leader and who would certainly be an excellent insider. Some people were surprised that Slavia's leadership was still clinging to something that has been found many times to be a mistake.
Perhaps never before has Slavia's forward line played in Vienna as badly as in this match. The main culprit was Bradáč. He walked around the field almost in the true sense of the word, as if he didn't care about the outcome. Vacek suffered mainly from his performance and the left side was also dependent on itself. Vacek was an inexperienced, independent player who could not work miracles in an environment similar to this match. Vytlačil pushed out the červenobílých forward line again, penetrated dangerously and shot nicely. Kopecký played extremely selflessly and often helped the advance in which Průcha disappointed.
