Comparisons between eras are normal. This is something which happened a lot and still happens in football. On december of 1942, in Bohemia-Moravia, a debate with this topic was brought to attention. The idea was to have the two main centre-forwards of each period assign a team representing their respective period. Therefore, Václav Pilát and Josef Bican made their selections.
The debate specifically was not just about which team would win, but the changes, adaptations, physical issues and other transformations Czech football has undergone. These questions raised opinions from several experts and other authorities, in addition to the public itself. While most of the people defended that Pilát's team and the whole 1922 era was better, the other side — not many compared to the ones which voted for Pilát — defended the whole 1942 group. Fifty personalties were interviewed for this research. The overall result was convincing for the old football — 1922 —, whose victory was most often estimated at 5:1.
